Check-Ups and Hygiene

Plaque hardens into tartar within days, and once it does, brushing won't remove it. That's what a cleaning is for.

Almost every expensive dental problem started as a cheap one. A cleaning is where the cheap version gets caught.

A hygiene appointment does two jobs. The first is removing plaque and tartar from places your toothbrush and floss can't reach, particularly below the gumline and between back teeth.

The second is assessment. Your hygienist measures the pockets between gum and tooth, which is how gum disease is caught before it starts affecting bone. Your dentist checks for decay, examines existing fillings and crowns, and performs an oral cancer screening. Most problems found at this stage are small and inexpensive to fix. The same problems found two years later often aren't.

Most patients are seen every six months. Some need a shorter interval, usually because of a history of gum disease, smoking, dry mouth, diabetes, or a pattern of decay. We'll tell you what's appropriate for you rather than defaulting everyone to the same schedule.

If it's been a while since your last cleaning, that's common and not something you'll be lectured about. The first appointment may take longer or be split across two visits depending on how much buildup is present.

Gum disease in its early stages has few symptoms. Bleeding when you brush is often the only sign, and it's easy to dismiss.

Book a cleaning and we'll show you where you actually stand.

Bleeding gums may be a sign of gingivitis or gum disease. It’s important to book a cleaning and exam to address it early.

Jaw discomfort may be related to TMJ issues or clenching. We can help with diagnosis and treatment like night guards or Botox therapy.

Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings help prevent plaque buildup and tooth decay.

Many dental issues are painless in the early stages. Exams help catch problems like cavities, gum disease, or oral cancer early.

The Pinhole Technique is a minimally invasive procedure to treat gum recession without grafting or sutures.

We recommend a check-up and cleaning every six months to maintain your oral health and catch any issues early.
